Introduction Southern Illinois Railcar Company (SIRC) is dedicated to developing customer relationships that will grow with time. We start with the realization that all customers-no matter how big or how small-share a common need for prompt, flexible railcar options and reliable, high-quality service. Why not give SIRC a chance to live up to your expectations?
Founders Fred and Jeanie Parsons incorporated Southern Illinois Railcar Company on April 2, 1990. Fred had fourteen years of experience in rail transportation with the grain industry, receiving a B.A. in Agri-Business management from University of Illinois at Springfield, formerly Sangamon State. He leads the company as President and Chief Operating Officer.
History The company began its fleet development with the acquisition of ten airslide-covered hoppers purchased from the Soo Line Railroad. Following a repair program, the infant fleet was leased to a local flourmill. With its primary interest in the grain industry, Southern Illinois Railcar Company seized every opportunity to increase its fleet by taking advantage of disposition of railroad equipment. An opportunity for managing railcars for investors brought with it the potential to add new cars to the growing fleet. Thus began the process of developing a management company while expanding the size of the fleet.
On August 31, 2007, Sumitomo Corporation of America acquired Southern Illinois Railcar. SCOA formed SC Rail Leasing America, Inc. which is now d.b.a. Southern Illinois Railcar. The Company direction is to continue focusing on customer service while making every effort to add leased equipment with current and new customers. SIRC will continuously explore leasing options with new customers across many different car types including gondolas, boxcars, refrigerated boxcars, flatcars, and open top hoppers.
The company today prides itself on the added value it brings to the customer, confirming that Southern Illinois Railcar Company is more that just a railcar company. |
